Walking with people near death is always challenging, but as a minister of the gospel and perhaps even more so a person who cares, I want people to know they are loved. Working as a chaplain, I often times come into situations where I don’t have a pre-existing relationship with the person I am interacting. But every room I walk into, I enter with a smile. It might seem small however by just smiling, I’m showcasing the love of Christ.
What I’ve learned is sometimes people don’t care what you say, until they first know that you care. Smiling tells the patients, “Hi, I’m Camille and I care.”
