‘ “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. ‘
John 17:20-23 (ESV)
What a kind Lord we serve, just as we don’t have to be the foundation of community because He is, we also don’t carry all the load in prayer. He prepared the way in prayer for us right after he got up from the last supper with his disciples. He has prayed for us so that we can enjoy the same unity that the Trinity lives in. I pray that this prayer will be a starting point as you give thanks to the Lord at the table with your community.
Lord Jesus, this table is sacred space
You are our most precious guest
Thank you for the gifts kindly given
For our daily bread we give you thanks
Partaking blesses us with the promise of Yourself
Oh Bread of Life may we be transformed here
As we leave may we be
More like you
and more in love with you.
